Each week a summary report is posted on this page that includes the status of enforcement actions (first available with the February 7 summary report), recorded requests for information, and reported complaint data on potential noncompliance with the N.C. Smoke-Free Restaurants and Bars law. Reported complaint dates details are shared with local health departments, which are authorized to enforce the law with businesses. Please keep in mind that a complaint is not a confirmed violation of the law.

NOTE: Once there are validated violations of the law, the details will be posted per county on this website, including the name and address of the business that is not in compliance.
Secondhand smoke is a serious public health hazard, and the public has the right to know which businesses are not in compliance.
* Neither Hits nor Page Views is a human headcount of web site "traffic".
The hits metric is a count of all files that load (the web page, graphics, etc.) when a page is requested. One request for a web page could theoretically produce an infinite number of hits.
The page views metric is a count of web page documents (e.g., htm, html, asp, aspx, pdf, etc.) defined as pages (which can vary by server) requested by the user. Pages that may have already been cached by a user's machine are not counted; therefore, page views is not likely to be a complete count of requests.
† A reported complaint is not necessarily a violation until it has been validated by the Local Health Department.
